Dear Friend,
The little things are often the big things.
The widow put her coins into the offering plate. Before her, others had trumpeted their generosity. They had put large sums of money into the plate, and made sure everyone knew about it.
Jesus had been watching. When he commented, it was not about those who had given great sums of cash, but about the widow, who had given a seemingly insignificant amount. “She gave extravagantly,” said Jesus.
It was because she gave from her heart.
That’s what love does. It pours itself out in extravagance. It reaches and supports and sacrifices over and over and over.
The true measure of an act is not what is done, or how much is given, but the motivation behind it.
Perhaps you cannot support TheGoal.com with gifts of largesse. Perhaps there are limits to your resources. Perhaps you think your gift is so insignificant it shouldn’t even by given.
Remember the widow. And remember her motivation for giving. And remember how Jesus spoke to the extravagance of her gift.
Give in love – no matter the amount – and it will be the most generous gift we ever receive.
It is love that changed the world on a cross and through an empty tomb.
And it is love that continues to change the world – through gifts like yours.
